Dr. Lauren B. Gerson, a Gastroenterologist practicing at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) in San Francisco, passed away in July 2017, after a valiant battle against metastatic melanoma. She is survived by her husband, Bill, two daughters and a son, as well as by her parents and sister.
Dr. Gerson devoted herself to solving her patients' most difficult and longstanding health challenges, and many patients have reached out to express their sympathies. Her colleagues at CPMC have honored Dr. Gerson's interest in clinical research by establishing the Lauren B. Gerson Gastroenterology Research Fund of the CPMC Foundation.
Dr. Gerson was a graduate of San Mateo High School, Princeton University, SUNY Buffalo Medical School, and the Stanford University School of Medicine. She served as a fellow and faculty member at Stanford Hospital for over 15 years, and became an internationally acclaimed published researcher in her field. The American College of Gastroenterolgy elected Dr. Gerson to serve on its board of trustees for 2016-2017, and posthumously awarded her the honor of Master of the College in October 2017.
Dr. Gerson enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and was an avid tennis player, skier, figure skater, pianist and flautist at holiday observances. She is dearly missed by her loving family, friends, patients and colleagues.
